Toonkit offers various technical services for CG post-production companies to help them handle characters and props.

<fieldset>
<legend>

Rigging / Setup, a crucial but underestimated department

</legend>

We have worked for many years as freelance developers and CG artists in various companies, mainly in Rigging or R&D departments. We understand that these tasks are critical and often underestimated, particularly in short productions such as commercials and Music videos.

In these departments it’s very important to build an effective team, with a good synergy. Team members must be technical but also immediately available and very flexible. It’s very difficult to gather such teams particularly in a “Temporary work” scheme.

</fieldset>
<fieldset>
<legend>

Toonkit as an experts team

</legend>

We have built a solid and stable team, working together since 2009. Our team of experts can take care of rigging and pipeline integration, and develop dedicated solutions to optimize every aspect of creating and handling virtual actors.

We want to work with our collaborators as regular freelance partners, using our technical background and structure, we are instantly ready and effective.

The idea behind Toonkit is to offer a solid and effective workflow, with great respect of the flexibility needed in the computer graphics industry.

<fieldset>
<legend>

Toonkit, a scalable and flexible collaborator

</legend>

As we worked as a team on big productions, Toonkit can manage or provide support for the technical complexity involved in the Rigging and Character’s technical direction.

Depending on the customer’s needs we can attend internal meetings and pipeline decisions, with a physical on-site presence, or work independently and simply submit the assets to validation.

</fieldset>
<fieldset>
<legend>

A team armed for all the challenges

</legend>

We have tools that are typically used for very challenging projects such as full 3D Feature films or series. We now want to use this technical background on projects that unfortunately don’t have access to these technologies.

As an example, we have developed an in-house Autorig, “OSCAR”. You can find more information in our dedicated articles and movies.

To propose a high-end technical service to companies that can't afford so much R&D, And to avoid reinventing the wheel. Continue reading →

<fieldset>
<legend>

Stop creating and destructing teams again and again

</legend>

When our last production came to an end, we could have split like we usually do to constitute another team elsewhere, with new tools and workflows, for other projects. But this team was working so well that we decided to stick together.

We think this kind of very specialized “company nodes” could be an alternative to the obvious globalization of our work, and still be competitive as compared to India, Thailand, Korea… reducing running costs, and offering a high-end service.

</fieldset>
<fieldset>
<legend>

Capitalize on each project

</legend>

To avoid reinventing the wheel we propose an independent “cell”, willing to grow : each project feed the next, and by nature, we don’t charge the collaborator for each tool, because they’re shared across all Toonkit collaborators.

</fieldset>
<fieldset>
<legend>

Collaborate in a win-win situation

</legend>

Structures specialized in animation and/or direction want to focus their energy on artistic concerns. They don’t necessarily want to care about the technical aspect, even if the success of its project is partially dependent on the reliability of the pipeline and the base assets.

They want to offer a complete coverage of the filmmaking, but the technical setup is definitely not a priority for them.

Toonkit is a technical support for such companies, to help them reassure the producers, optimize their budget and finally build the movie in the best conditions.

Nicolas is a computer “addict”. He grew with it and is playing around digital animation since his childhood. He’s always tuned in to animator’s concerns, as consequence he was holding the job of Animation TD on the last production he worked on.

His technical and artistic mixed profile brings him to lead technically the animation on the last french full cg feature film “A monster in Paris” (Europacorp 2011). This experience gives us a clear sight on animator’s needs.

He’s actively participating to the design of OSCAR, our rigging tool, and he’s particularly careful about the quality of work.
